Apex has grown almost entirely since 2000, so nearly every home we see has a 200A panel with room for a 60A circuit. Panel upgrades are rare here. Installs are usually same-day.
Apex runs its own municipal electric utility rather than being served by Duke Energy. That matters for EV owners — service upgrades and any load questions go through Apex Electric Utilities directly, and the process is generally quicker than working with a large regional utility.
Worth knowing locally. Because Apex owns its grid, rebate and time-of-use programmes here are set by the town, not by Duke. VERIFY current Apex Electric programmes before quoting savings.
Electrical permits for Apex are issued by Town of Apex Building Inspections, and power is supplied by Apex Electric Utilities (town-owned). We pull the permit in our name, book the inspection and meet the inspector on site. You do not need to file anything or take a day off work for it.
We install regularly across Scotts Mill, Haddon Hall, Bella Casa, Sweetwater and Riley's Pond, along with the rest of Apex — around 75,000 people and growing.
Every install is carried out by a licensed North Carolina electrical contractor and wired to NEC Article 625, the section covering electric vehicle supply equipment. That means correct circuit sizing, proper GFCI protection where required, and a disconnect where the code calls for one.
It matters more than it sounds. An EV charger is one of the largest continuous loads a house will ever carry — it runs at near-maximum draw for hours at a time, which is exactly when undersized wiring shows up.
